Humanitarian Support
Providing care and support for those facing hardship.
At Project Humanity Australia, humanitarian support focuses on providing immediate and practical assistance to vulnerable individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
Through programs such as meal services, medical assistance, mobility support and gift distributions, we aim to bring compassion, dignity and hope to those who need it most.
These initiatives support the blind, people with disabilities, the elderly, sick children and families living in poverty.
One meal at a time
Compassion Kitchen
The Compassion Kitchen in Long An, Vietnam began in May 2015 with a simple but powerful purpose — to provide nutritious home-cooked meals for those who are most vulnerable.
Meals are prepared for:
• The blind
• People living with disabilities
• The elderly
• The sick
• Children from the Compassion Classroom
For those who are unable to travel, meals are also delivered directly to their homes.
The kitchen is overseen by Fr Dom Liem and parish volunteers, who source fresh ingredients from local markets and prepare daily lunches with care. Project Humanity Australia contributes approximately $2,000 AUD each month to support the Compassion Kitchen.
To date, over 223,000 meals have been provided.
As Mother Teresa once said: “If you can’t feed one hundred people, then feed just one.”
This philosophy continues to guide the work of the Compassion Kitchen — providing compassion and nourishment one meal at a time.
Working towards a healthier future
Medical Assistance
Project Humanity Australia provides support for individuals and children who require critical medical care but lack the financial means to access treatment.
Through generous donations, PHAI has funded:
• Two open-heart surgeries
• Mental health treatment support
• Over 100 cataract surgeries
• 200 gifts to children with cancer in the Philippines
Since 2019, PHAI has sponsored over 130 children requiring daily renal dialysis treatment at the Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. These children come from remote villages where families often struggle to afford life-saving treatment.
Approximately $100 AUD can help fund one month of dialysis treatment for a child. Without this treatment, many of these children would not survive.
Through the support of donors and volunteers, PHAI hopes to continue expanding assistance programs so that more children can receive the care they need.
Bringing hope to families in need
Gift Distribution
Each year, Project Humanity Australia distributes gift parcels to vulnerable individuals and families in impoverished areas of Vietnam.
To date, over 12,400 gift parcels have been distributed to:
• The blind
• People with disabilities
• The elderly
• Families with young children
• Indigenous communities
Each gift parcel costs approximately $25 AUD and typically includes essential food and household items such as:
• Rice
• Noodles
• Sugar
• Salt
• Cooking oil
• Dried fish
• Baked treats
• Basic medical supplies
• Cash assistance
Gift distributions often take place during Christmas and Lunar New Year, providing families with essential supplies and something to celebrate during these special times.
These gifts are personally delivered by the PHAI management team during mission trips.
Restoring mobility and independence
Wheelchair Distribution
Through collaboration with Wheelchairs for Kids in Western Australia, Project Humanity Australia has distributed over 1,200 wheelchairs to children across Vietnam.
For many children living with disabilities, a wheelchair provides more than mobility — it offers freedom, independence and the ability to participate in daily life. Receiving their first wheelchair is often a life-changing moment for these children and their families.
These wheelchairs help children move more freely, attend school and rely less on carers for daily activities.
